William Aaron N. Sweat

William A. N. Sweat, Sr., age 90, passed away Friday, November 15, 2013, at University Hospital. Aaron retired from the Southern Railroad Co. as an Engineer.He was the last engineer to operator the Steam Engine Locomotive.He was an Army WW II veteran having served in Echo Co. 706th and the 70th Infantry Division having fought in the Battle of the Bulge.He was one of the original members of Sherwood Baptist Church, helping to build the church brick by brick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Estele and Mamie Estelle Hurst Sweat and his wife, Frankie A. Sweat, and one grandson and 1 brother and 2 sisters. He is survived by his children, William A. N. “Billy” Sweat, Jr. of West Columbia, S.C., Cathy Sweat Mosteller of Travelers Rest, S.C. and John Anthony Sweat of Augusta, GA.; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday (TODAY) 6pm to 8 pm at THE POTEET FUNERAL HOME, 3465 Peach Orchard Rd., Augusta, 30906, 706.798.8886. Funeral Services will be Monday at 1 pm at Sherwood Baptist Church, 3131 Old Louisville Rd., with Pastor Jim Johnson officiating.Burial to follow in Hephzibah Vance Cemetery.
