Don Bennett Grovetown, Ga.- Don Bennett, age 51, died August 14, 2009 at University Hospitalsurrounded by his loving family, after a courageous fight against heart failure. Don was the beloved husband of 30 years to Barbara Bennett and beloved father of 24 years to Chad Bennett.Don leaves a place in our hearts that can never truly be filled. Don was born in Sylvania, Georgia.He was preceded in death by his mother, Celeste Bennett on February 7, 2009.Survivors include his loving wife Barbara, his son Chad, his father, Bill Bennett, a sister, Lynn Bennett Thigpen and her husband Phillip, a niece, Jennifer Lynn Levengood, a great nephew Landon Bill Levengood and nephew Lance Thigpen. He is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Bobbie and George Macky, a sister-in-law Cathy Goodgame and her husband Mike, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 17, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, Ga. The funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Greg Bentley officiating.Don’s body will lie in state in the funeral home chapel for one hour prior to the funeral service.The committal will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Don worked as a Commercial Contractor for Golden Corral Restaurants for the past 14 years.Don was a local homebuilder in previous years. He began his love of carpentry at age 9 working beside his father. Don was deeply loved and will be terribly missed by everyone. He touched many hearts and lives, and his memory will never fade. Pallbearers will be David Bennett, Hal Beman,David Carpenter,Michael Layman, David McDaniels,and Regis Quintin.
