Walter Delver Cox, age 85, passed away Monday, October 7, 2024, in North Augusta, SC, after a period of declining health. Walter was born September 25, 1939, in Wilkes County, NC, to Zollie and Eula Yates Cox. A graduate of Warren Wilson College and Appalachian State University, he earned his Masters at the University of Tennessee and taught history for many years in Augusta, GA, and Greenville, SC. He was an avid reader, gardener, traveler, and Democrat, collector of Christmas decor , quilts and pottery, and lover of bluegrass music. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a special grandmother, Julia Yates; three sisters, Faye Whittington, Inis Perry and Ennis Goulds; and four brothers, Jake Linnis Cox, Jim Cox, Hubert Cox and Clyde Delano Cox. He is survived by his son Michael Cox (Heather Newton), daughter Kristi Blattel (Edward Senkowski), partner John Braly, grandchildren and their families Josh Christy, Zach Christy, Caleb Blattel, and Madeleine Cox, many nieces and nephews including Nancy Moretz, Regina Beatty, Sandra Prince, Joan Johnson, Josephine Johnson, Reece Cox and Kenneth Johnson, and special lifelong friends, John and Judy Shepherd. Memorials may be made to Walter’s favorite charities, the SPCA Albrecht or Aiken Meals on Wheels.
