Mrs. Vera Virginia Chavous McZilkey Augusta, Georgia Mrs. Vera V. McZilkey, loving wife of Horace E. McZilkey of 55 years, entered into rest, Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at University Hospital with her pastor and family at her side. The funeral service will be conducted today, Friday, February 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel ofThe Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta. The committal service will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.Pastor Larry Jennings, Rev. Nevil Smith, and Rev. Paul Enfinger will officiate. Pallbearers will be Ricky Winter, Wesley Matthews, Greg Matthews, Rodey Dauchenhausen, Andy Dauchenhausen, and Bill McZilkey.Honorary pallbearers will be Clifford Murphy, Ray Saxon, Tom Saxon, and Harold Huffman. Mrs. McZilkey is survived by her husband, Horace E. McZilkey of Augusta; sons, Dale E. McZilkey and his wife Ellen of Hephzibah, Donald E. McZilkey of Conyers, Georgia; one granddaughter, Victoria R. Oates; two great granddaughters of Augusta; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Vera McZilkey was born in Richmond County to the late Martin Chavous and Stella Chavous.She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.She supported her husband in his military career of 31 years.Mrs. McZilkey was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she served on several committees.She was Jr. Past Worthy Matron for Chapter No. 18, Order of the Eastern Star.
