Sylvia Green Johnson died at 6:40 P.M., on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. She had been admitted to the facility for two weeks prior to her death. She died from congenital heart failure. She was 88 years old. She was born Sylvia Green on August 29, 1925. She is survived by her son Glenn Johnson, by two nieces, Linda Ward (Tampa, Florida), and Delia Barksdale (New York, New York), and by three nephews Harold Ward (Tampa, Florida), James Barksdale (New York, New York), and David Barksdale (Augusta, Georgia). She had a grand niece, David Barksdale’s daughter, Danesha Barksdale. Sylvia Johnson was intensely cared for during the last five years of her life by her daughter-in-law Sharmella Johnson. She was also cared for by David’s wife Cynthia Barksdale. Sylvia Johnson was survived by some very loyal life long friends such as Mariam Colon, of New York, who was more like a daughter. Paula Brown Canady and Naomi Breech both of Charlotte, North Carolina. Also, Cynthia Webster of Lithonia, Georgia. She had a favorite in-law, Sharon Owens of Santa Anna, California. Sylvia Johnson had some important people in her life that pre-deceased her. Her daughter Sheila Johnson, her sisters Elsie Barksdale and Hilda Ward. Her only husband Fred Johnson, the love of her life.
