Selma “Linda” Pitcher passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Piedmont Hospital Augusta following a brief illness at the age of 72. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Anthony Samuel Christiano and Josephine Ola Christiano. Linda was born in Coral Gables, Florida but moved to South Carolina in 1981. Linda loved her family and friends with unrestrained compassion and care. Her willingness to help all was her aided by her trademark smile. An avid animal lover and former breeder of prize-winning AKC registered golden retrievers, Linda was always moved most by those without a voice. She gave willingly of her time and her wallet to protect and serve all who needed help of any kind. She was a dedicated public servant of 33 plus years as a Dispatcher for the Department of Public Safety North Augusta prior to her retirement in July 2015. One of her family’s favorite quotes about her public service was “…Just have compassion and care about people and let them know, right away , when they call on 911 or just a regular line, that they matter.” Her service and her willingness to train others to follow this guidance was recognized by her trainees, her officers, and The Post and Courier as she celebrated her retirement (https://www.postandwourier.com/northaugustastar/community-news/dispatchers-share-from-decades-of service-under-pressure/articlate_b125296-8df7-5971-ade2-083852dabe34.html). She often referred to her work family members as heroes and larger than life but they knew that she was the real heroine who would be that caring and calm voice over the radio who would help them navigate a difficult situation. Local residents could count on Linda to provide thoughtful and professional responses to their needs during stressful times. She is survived by her sisters, Linda Christiano Hall (Kenny), Susan Hale (Lou); her brothers, Tony Christiano and Tim Christiano (Michelle) as well as her nieces, Shannon Tudor Meyer, Lisa Hall, Casey Glover, Donna Alfonso (Allen) and Theresa Bervaldi (Jason) and her nephews, Glenn Hall, Jimmy Hall and Alex Christiano (Sydney) as well as great-nieces, Alanna and Fortune and great-nephews, AJ and Darby. Her extended family included Alicia Parks (William) and their children who always welcomed her into every family celebration. They will miss her beyond measure and there are no words to convey the loss that they feel. The support of her loving church family of Burnettown First Baptist Church was felt not only by her but also by her family.
