Mr. Samuel R. McDonald CWO 2 U.S. Army (Ret.) Grovetown, GA. Mr. Samuel R. McDonald, 80, husband of Mrs. Janet McDonald, entered peacefully into rest at his home on February 15, 2016. Mr. McDonald was a native of Shepherdsville, KY, but relocated to Georgia, where he lived for much of his life. He retired from the United States Army, where he served as a Warrant Officer II and became a decorated Vietnam veteran. His list of Decorations and Medals include the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and the Bronze Star Medal. He was also a member of The Shriners. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Della McDonald, and brother, David McDonald. In addition to his wife, Mr. McDonald leaves behind his daughters, Dena Rehberg (Kerry), C.J. Bridges (William), Erica Hicks (Robert), and Samantha Rae McDonald; brother, Bennie McDonald (Noodles); grandchildren, Steven White, Ryan Mathews, Michael Mathews, Kaitlan Hicks, Zoey Hicks, Clara Hicks,Ethan Hicks,Emily McDonald, and Joseph Bridges; and six great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Augusta Warrior Project (augustawarriorproject.org). A private memorial service with Full Military Honors will be held at a later date.
