Mrs. Ruby Richards Goodin, a longtime resident of Hephzibah, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 22, 2011. She was 85 years old. Mrs. Goodin is survived by her children, Karen Hensley, and her husband, Terry, of Hephzibah, Jerry Wade Richards, and his wife, Sharri, of Conyers, Georgia, Dale Tanner of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Debbie Vaughn, of Hazel Green, Alabama, John Goodin, and his wife, Sandy, of Augusta, and Helen Howard, of North Augusta; her grandchildren, Anna Hensley, Mary Hensley, Rachel Hensley, John Goodin Jr., Elaine Connell, Judy Bain, and Tim Spivey; her great-grandson, Kaysen Henthorn; her sisters, Jessie Cobb and Vergie Reece; her brother, James Richards; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and close friends. Mrs. Goodin was preceded in death by her husband, David Walker Goodin, in 1995; her parents, Herman and Lizzie Rogers Richards; her sister, Nora Vaughn; her brothers, Bob Richards, Roy Richards, Doyle Richards, JB Richards, Harrison Richards, and Evort Richards. Mrs. Goodin attended Pine Hill Baptist church. She had worked at University Hospital in the Physical Therapy department for 16 years. Mrs. Goodin deeply loved Jesus Christ and celebrated each moment of her life. She had a passion for gardening, cooking, and hummingbirds. Mrs. Goodin loved her family and friends. She was a part of the group known as the "Wild Women". At Pine Hill Baptist Church, she greatly enjoyed taking part in the Lena Floyd Sunday School Class. The members of this Sunday School class will serve as honorary pallbearers at her funeral service. Memorials may be made to Pine Hill Baptist Church, 4233 Old Waynesboro Road, Hephzibah, GA 30815. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 26, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta. The funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Committal services will follow at Hephzibah Vance Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Euel Reece and Pastor Robert Driggers will officiate.
