Ruby Lee Borders passed away on December 23rd, 2014 in Augusta, GA, just one day shy of her 95th birthday. Ruby, born on Dec 24th, 1919 in Priceville, KY, was the middle child and only daughter of Forest and Della Hodges. She is survived by her brother Austin (Mary Ellen) Hodges, daughter Patrisia (John) Miller of Augusta, GA, her son Donald (Donna) Borders of Elizabethtown, KY and seven grandchildren, Jackie Hendricks, Kim Wilcox, John Richardson, Jimmy Richardson, Billy Richardson, Matt Borders, Brianna Wease, and Leslie Casteel. She is preceded by both her parents, her brother Otis Hodges of Munfordville, KY., and her adoring husband Bill Borders of Sonora, KY. Ruby was a sweet, caring, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She married Bill Borders, a dairy farmer, in January, 1937. They spent much of their life together in Sonora, KY., and were members of Sonora First Baptist Church where Ruby taught the primary Sunday school class. Ruby was the matriarch of a large family that included two children, seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was known to all as “Grandmother Borders.” Ruby always had a smile on her face, and dressed in her Sunday’s best whether going to a church, to the store, or to the salon where she had her hair styled every Friday. Ruby was generous, compassionate, and gentle soul who cherished her role as caregiver for her family. Her family remembers her as an amazing cook, and has fond memories of her ever-Saturday potato-soup, dumplings, “pink salad” and her famous chocolate sauce. Christmas Eve was a special tradition as they celebrated not only the birth of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and their dear Grandmother Borders always gathered around her table. Ruby’s family loved and admired her deeply, and will always remember her home fondly. Funeral arrangements have been made @ Manakee Funeral Home, Sonora, KY. for Monday December 29th at 2 P.M. with visitation beginning at 12:00.
