SMS Robert L. Jacobs Sr. USAF Retired Senior Master Sergeant Robert L. Jacobs Sr. died on Friday, March 23, 2012.He was 67 years old.The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 25, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.The funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 26, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Hephzibah Baptist Church.Committal services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, South Carolina.Pastor Danny McGill will officiate. Mr. Jacobs is survived by his wife, Bonnie Sue Jacobs; his sons, Robert L. Jacobs Jr. (Susan) and Charles J. Jacobs (Amy); his mother, Ailene Cunningham Jacobs; his grandchildren, Skyler Chase Jacobs, Kelly Renee Jacobs, Christopher Jacobs, Taylor Turner, and Jon Michael Jacobs; his siblings, Dorothy Covert Rowan (Kevin), Hal Covert (Judy), Ronnie Jacobs, Pat Jacobs Hall, Arlene Allen (Evan) and Darlene Hazzard (Chuck), Michael Wayne Jacobs (Sheila); other loving relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his son, Kim David Covert, and by his father, William Ellis Jacobs. Mr. Jacobs was a member of Hephzibah Baptist Church and the Bible Book Sunday School class.He was born in Louisville, Kentucky.He served in the United States Air Force for twenty two years, and attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.He served in the Vietnam War during the Tet Offensive.After completing his Air Force service, he spent five years as a deputy with the Wichita County, Texas Sheriffs Department.Mr. Jacobs was active in many clubs and organizations: Life member of the PVA, Life member of the VFW, Life member of DAV, a member of The American Legion, Masonic Lodge 1158 AF&AM, a 32 degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite, member of the Georgia Christian Bass Club, Past Chaplain for the Southeastern Paralyzed Veterans Bass Club, and the Air Force Security Police Association.
