US Army Retired AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Robert H. "Mr. G." Gilpin, loving husband of Ethel E. Gilpin, of Augusta, died on Friday, April 22, 2011. He was 83 years old. The family will receive friends this morning, Monday, April 25, 2011 from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta. The memorial service will follow this morning, Monday, April 25, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Pastor Sue Clayton will officiate and the United States Army Honor Guard will accord full military honors. Along with his wife of 58 years, Mrs. Ethel E. Gilpin, he is survived by his sons, Jim (Connie) Gilpin, of Augusta, and Mark (Tina) Gilpin, of Hephzibah; his grandchildren, Shawn (Cathy), Crystal (Beau), Brandon, Jordan (Carla), and Cameron; his sisters, Janice Gier and Sallie Hicksenheiser; his great-grandchildren, Tiffani, Heather, Jacob, Matthew, Aiden, Tyler, Pablo, Emmanuel, Zoey, and Kirsten. He was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Angel Gilpin, in 2001. Mr. Gilpin was a combat veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a member of Faith Ministries. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather; he enjoyed playing pool and fishing.
