Robert Atkinson Carter passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024 at the age of 86. Born on July 8, 1938 in Savannah, GA, Robert lived a life defined by service, loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to his values. Robert answered the call to serve his country with honor and distinction, enlisting in the United States Marine Corps at a young age. During his years of service, he exemplified courage and discipline, forging bonds with his fellow Marines that lasted a lifetime. His dedication to duty was matched only by his deep love for his community. After his military service, Robert carried forward the principles of the Corps—honor, courage, and commitment—into civilian life. He worked as a route driver for many years, leaving a lasting impact on those he worked with through his jokes and hard work. Robert’s greatest joy in life was his love for dancing. Bob is proceeded in death by his Mother, Lucille Hargroves, Savannah, GA, Father, Robert A Carter, Sr. and step-child, Stephenie Dukes, Beech Island, SC. He is survived by step-children, Lisa Dukes-Landrum (Marty) of Jackson, SC and Curtis Dukes (Robin) of Loudon, TN. Also survived by significant other, Shelby Rose, Lexington, SC. A man of strong faith and generosity, Robert was actively involved in his church, loved to travel to Cherokee, NC and was an avid dancer. He gave his time and energy to causes that mattered to him, always striving to make the world a better place. Robert will be remembered for his sharp wit, kind heart, and steadfast spirit.
