SFC Richard K. Tranum Sr. SFC Richard K. Tranum Sr., 79, of Country Place Drive, entered into rest on April 17, 2009 at University Hospital. The memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 6:00 pm in the chapel of The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.Rev. William (Bill) Harrell will officiate.The family will receive friends at VFW Post 649 after the memorial service on Tuesday. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his beloved wife of 53 years, Hannelore G. Tranum; four sons, Richard K. Tranum Jr. (Carolyn), Tommy E. Tranum, Stuart L. Tranum (Gaye), Carl W. Tranum (Tia); his daughter, Karen A. Hammett (Rudy); his special adopted daughter, Michelle Newman (Roy); five sisters, Frances Webb, Jean Smith (Larry), Reba Johnson (Jess), Carol Sampson, and Areas Gittleson (Clint); two brothers, Phillip Tranum (Linda), and Jack Tranum; fourteen grandchildren, Lindsey Tranum, Dallas Tranum, Tristan Tranum, Samantha Tranum, Taylor Tranum, Amanda Tranum, Brandon Tranum, Michael W. Russell Jr., Bailey Hammett, Taylor Hammett, Lacie Hammett, Ty Newman, Macee Newman; two great-grandchildren; his best friend, Edward Johnson (Carol) a host of nieces, nephews, family, and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, William Tranum and Joseph Tranum. Mr. Tranum was born on October 23, 1929 in Bristol, Virginia to the late Frank and Mallie Tranum.He retired from the US Army in 1969 after 23 years of service.He fought for his country in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.After his military service he settled with his family in Augusta, Georgia where he worked at Bush Field Aviation for 15 years before finally retiring.He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 649 where he was also a past commander.He was also a member of the American Legion Post 178.He enjoyed bowling, fishing, singing karaoke, and being with friends and family.Richard was a blessing and was loved by everyone he knew.
