Mr. Richard Meredith MSgt. US Army Retired Mr. Richard Meredith, of South Augusta, husband of Debby Meredith, died on Monday, September, 13, 2010 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. The family will receive friends today, Thursday, September 16, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Abilene Baptist Church. Mr. Meredith will lie in state at the church on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.Rev. Paul Robertson will officiate. Committal services will be conducted at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia at a later date. Mr. Meredith is survived by his wife, Debby Meredith; his son, Justin Meredith, and his wife Michelle, of Dallas, Georgia; his “number 2” son, Steven Fossett, and his wife Cathy, of Dallas, Georgia; three grandchildren, Vanessa Meredith, Joshua Meredith, and Mason Meredith; andgrandsons, Zach and Dillon Fossett; his mother in law, Midge Smoyer; his brothers, Randy Meredith, and Jimmy Meredith, both of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his sisters, Lori Bowyer, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Vicki Ballard, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He will also be missed by a multitude of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.He was a loving papa and uncle to many.Mr. Meredith was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey G. Meredith and Darlene M. Meredith. Mr. Meredith was a member of Windsor Spring Baptist Church. He joined the U.S. Army in 1973, and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1994.Following his retirement from the military, he worked with the Department of Defense at Fort Gordon. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Windsor Spring Baptist Church Building Fund, 3692 Windsor Spring Road, Augusta, Georgia, 30906.
