Richard Gregory Harasin, 76, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on the morning of September 20, 2022. He grew up in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and after graduating high school joined the U.S. Navy. He proudly served aboard the USS Norfolk DL-1, the USS Fulton AS-11, and USS George Washington Carver SSBN-656 as the Leading Sonar Division Petty Officer out of Groton, Connecticut. He moved to Maryland and worked as a Program Manager in support of Trident submarine programs. He graduated with honors from the University of Maryland with a BS in Family Studies/Psychology. Then, he and wife Robin traveled the United States and Canada in an RV with their 2 children, Allison and Kevin, for 2 years before settling in Seagrove, Florida, where they lived for 29 years. Richard, Robin, and Allison recently moved to Evans, Georgia to be near family. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Robin (Spicer), and daughters Kristie Shortt (married to Timothy),Jennifer Harasin, and Allison Harasin, and his son Kevin Harasin (Hannah Brewer); 6 grandchildren, Amber Ziegenfuss (married to Stephen), Cory Shortt (Alyssa Didone), Shane Shortt (Nicole Brancato), Jeremy Corr (Gabrielle Dawson), Jamie and Jaiden Corr; 6 great grandchildren, Camdyn and Ethan Ziegenfuss, Melody and Amari Corr, Harper Shortt, and Wyatt Shortt; sisters Nancy Buckles, Patricia Sowerbrower (married to Ronald), Carol McNulty, and brother Daniel Harasin (married to Brenda). He is preceded in death by his parents John and Gladys Harasin, and his sister Rebecca Hanley. He had many hobbies and most especially enjoyed family, nature, gardening, and RV traveling. A celebration of his life and many accomplishments will be held on October 8, 2022, for family and friends in Evans, GA.
