Richard Frank Andrews

December 6, 1946 — October 30, 2024

Richard Frank Andrews, 77, of Augusta, GA, passed away suddenly on October 30th. This was only two months after the passing of love of his life, who he referred to as his bride, Cheryl Kelley Andrews. Frank, also know as Big Frank to his children’s friends, was a man of many talents. He played football for Texas A&M, built Port Royal and most of the buildings you see on the Augusta University Summerville and Health Sciences campuses, and helped with the construction of Plant Vogtle. He was a handy man and could always fix anything. He taught his children to be handy, too. He loved tinkering in his shop and could often be found fixing up the Avanti or working on the motorcycle and various other projects. He also enjoyed working in his yard, which always looked pristine. He was a man of honor and served as a Navy pilot in the Vietnam War. He never missed a national holiday, honoring those who fought for our country by placing his many flags all along the roads of the Brynwood neighborhood. Frank was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Cheryl Kelley Andrews, his father, C.H. (Bobo) Andrews, his mother, Peggy Wiggins Andrews, his mother-in-law, Jeanette Helms Kelley, who he affectionately called Big Mama, and his father-in-law, W.T. (Bill) Kelley. He is survived by his children, who he loved dearly, Richie (Julie) Andrews), Holly Andrews, Ryan (Mary) Andrews, his precious granddaughters, Kate and Meg Andrews, his sister, Ginger (Jim) Barnett, his brother-in-law, Tom (Sandy) Kelley, sister-in-law, Leslie (Mills) Polatty, and his nieces and nephews, Anna Kelley (Josh) Chapman, Kathryn (Marc) McMahon, Matt Kelley, Mike (Amanda) Kelley, and Caroline Polatty. He is also survived by his sweet puppies, Otis and Scout. Frank’s friends, the Bells, the Frys, the Postons, the Butts, the Babbitts, and countless other neighbors and friends were close to his heart and were more like family than friends. Frank’s acts of service for his family, friends, neighbors, and total strangers will always be remembered. A memorial service to celebrate Frank and Cheryl’s remarkable lives will be held on Saturday, November 23rd at 11am at Warren Baptist Church (3203 Washington Road, Augusta, GA 30907) in the small chapel where Frank and Cheryl were married.
