Life Legacy Mr. Rex Emory Mays Auto Parts Salesman Martinez, Ga. Born March 28, 1961 in Augusta, Ga. Husband of Christie Mays. Son of Margaret Lockhart Mays and Emory Harold Mays. Rex died at home Sunday, July 21, 2013 after a prolonged battle with brain cancer. Rex leaves behind his wife of 23 years, his daughter, Bethany Nixon and his much loved grandson Logan P,. Strength. In addition, his sisters, Micky Mays Poole and Robbi Gilmore and younger brother Donald Alan Mays and nieces Camila Maria, Natalie, Sara and Brooke will miss his calm voice. Rex attended Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville and Harlem High School. Rex was a successful automotive parts and equipment salesman for several local and national firms including the business named by his father for him, Rex Auto Parts. He also sold for NAPA and O’Reilly Auto Parts. He enjoyed traveling to dive the Caribbean in Belize and Bonaire as well as Florida. An avid SCUBA diver, Rex was a past officer with the Augusta Dive Club and was instrumental in sinking an airplane at the Thurmond Dam that has been used by thousands of local divers since 1989. Rex was a truly strong, but gentle man. Quick to help and never known to anger, Rex calmly accepted the diagnosis of his disease and always took pains to thank those who cared for him.Rex was especially thankful for the care given him at the MCG Cancer Center. Rex came to Jesus late in life but with the help of his friends from New Hope Worship Center he died in the full knowledge and faith of the promised Resurrection to come. Rex was a greeter and drove the golf cart at the Worship Center, a function he thoroughly enjoyed. Rex was a strong supporter of the Bridge Ministries. Memorial service will be conducted Wednesday July 31, 2013 at 7:00 pm at New Hope Worship Center with Pastor Rich Bowen officiating. In lieu of flowers would you honor Rex with donations to the Under the Bridge Ministries 715 S. Old Belair Road Grovetown, GA 30813.
