Rebecca M. Shelnutt Murray of Augusta went home to be with her Lord & Savior on Wednesday, January 14, 2009.She was 80 years old. She was a native of Social Circle, Georgia and had resided in Augusta most of her life. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 15, 2009 from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm at The Poteet Funeral Homes, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, January 16, 2009 at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.Committal will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.Rev. Tommy Meador will officiate.Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Benton Murray, and her parents, William Dean Shelnutt and Mattie Eileen Hollis Shelnutt. Mrs. Murray is survived by her children, Dean Murray and his wife, Corliss, of Hephzibah, Judy Wilson and her husband, Tommy, of Evans, and Patti Meador and her husband, Tom, of Augusta; her sister, Montine Hooper, Leslie, Ga.; six grandchildren, Sherry Heagy, Deanna Wells, Bryan Wilson, Brandi Shelnut, Tommy Meador, and Nathan Meador; nine great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. Mrs. Murray was a member of Southside Baptist Church where she had served as a church hostess and GA Director.She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, who will be missed by all.She loved & cherished her family.
