Rachel Caraway Widener

Rachel Caraway Widener, 79, passed away on November 23, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. She was a native of Jefferson County, though she made her home in Augusta for the past sixty years. Rachel was a lifelong homemaker, dedicated mother and Meme. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and engaging conversations. Everyone who knew her would agree that Rachel never met a stranger, and she freely gave that smile to anyone she met. She is preceded in death by her first husband, John Owen Rooks, her parents, W.B. and Mary Caraway, her brother, Everett Caraway, and her sister, Ann Gordy. She is survived by her husband, Howard Widener, who lovingly cared for her during her illness, her devoted daughter, Pamela Walker, grandchildren, Jonathon Wingate, Jr., and Leilani Walker, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on December 3, 2022, at 2pm at McBean Baptist Church in Waynesboro, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
