Peggy Reid, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother age 83, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. She leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and strength that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Born on August 4, 1940, in Augusta, GA, Peggy Joyce Reid was the daughter of Robert and Dauzie Jennings. She graduated from Evans High School in 1958. Peggy was one of 10 children. She had 8 brothers and one sister. She had a deep appreciation for family. Peggy Reid was a remarkable woman who made a significant impact on the lives of those around her. She was known for her unwavering devotion to her family. She loved her mama dearly, and loved her siblings well. She was always present and supportive of the endeavors of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her presence was always to be counted on whenever she was needed. She attended Freedom Bible Church and lived a life marked by service and compassion. A machine operator by trade, Peggy Reid spent her career at Kennametal/ Greenfield. However, even after retiring from being a machine operator, she spent years continuing to work and serve at the Augusta Rescue Mission. She was a hard worker and had a servant’s heart. She sought to instill those values in her children and grandchildren. In her free time, Peggy Reid pursued her passions with unwavering enthusiasm. She was an avid seamstress and could often be found sewing various items. She also loved spending time with family. Her zest for life was infectious, and she always had an opinion to share. Peggy Reid’s love for family was unparalleled. She was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Dauzie Jennings, her brothers: Ray Jennings, Robert Jennings, and Alvin Young, and sons-in law: Alvin Jones and Pete Cox. She is survived by, her siblings: Pete Wells (Brenda), Otis Jennings (Brenda), Virgil Jennings (Carolyn), Jerry Jennings, George Young (Cherry) and Judy Jennings, her children: Rose Cox and Cathy Jones, her grandchildren: Kelli Cox, Adam Cox (Brandy), Chad Cox (Danielle), Lee Jones, and Rachel Sweeting (Brian), her great-grandchildren: Natalie Cox, Kyleigh Jones, Kaitlyn Cox, Noah Cox, AJ Jones, Jackson Reid Sweeting, and Finnley Sweeting. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Peggy Reid will be held on September 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM. The service will be at Freedom Bible Church located at 777 Blanchard Road. Family and friends are invited to gather and pay their respects. Visitation will be from 10:30 – 11:00 AM at Freedom Bible Church immediately preceding the memorial service. Interment will be at a later date.
