Hephzibah, GA. Nillar T. Rooks, age 79, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016, at her residence with her family surrounding her. She was born April 3, 1937, in McBean, GA., to the late Franklin B. Ruth Connell Thomas, Sr.She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon G. Clark, Sr., one great grandchild, Peyton Shaw, and 4 brothers, Frank B. Thomas, Jr., Buddy Thomas, Perry Thomas and George (Tinker) Thomas. She retired from the VA Medical Center as a Medical Transcriptionist.She was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church, where she sang many solos and was the children’s choir director in 1982, having been blessed to have a voice as beautiful as hers.She was a well-known interior decorator, having an article written about her work in the Augusta Chronicle.She was a true Southern Bell, having friends and family over constantly so that she could entertain. She was an avid gardener.Always working in her flower beds.She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Emory Rooks; 5 children, Susan Shaw, Julie (Robert) Lee of Louisiana, Carole (Chuck) Goff, Vernon (Heather) Clark, Jr. and Candace Stock;3 sisters, Norma Thomas Baxter, Mary Ann Thomas Ergle and Elizabeth (Pet) Thomas Key; grandchildren, Stephanie Kolb, Richard Lee Shaw, Roby Cowart, Jr., Lindsey Blalock, Mary Dobbins, Madelyn Goff, Rhett Clark, Madison Clark, Aubrey Brown, Hannah Brown, Zakkary Stock and Cameron Stock;great grandchildren, Dalton, Landon, Hunter Shaw, Chase and Gage Shaw, Hailey, Emily, and Tucker Cowart, Hayden and Evan Blalock and Jordon Dobbins. Family will receive friends Tuesday (TODAY) 6 pm to 8 pm at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Rd., HWY 25, Augusta, 30906, 706.798.8886 Funeral Services will be Wednesday 2 pm at Pine Hill Baptist Church, 4233 Old Waynesboro Rd., Hephzibah, with Pastor Robert Driggers, officiating.
