Biography Mrs. Nellie Mae Wheeler Martinez, Ga. Mrs. Nellie Mae Wheeler, 92, passed away at Doctors Hospital on August 20, 2012. Wife of the late Rev. James Rufus Wheeler of 67 years also preceded in death a daughter, Elizabeth "Punky" Wheeler. Parents Johnny AlonzoShaw and Willie Mae Shaw Cato, Brothers, J.A. Shaw and Chevis Shaw. She is survived by two sons, Jimmy Wheeler (Beth), Hephzibah, Ga. Kenny Wheeler (Vivian) Martinez, Ga. Grandchildren, Mike Wheeler (Carol) McBean, Ga. Laura W. Efird (Dave) of Little Mountain, SC, and Amy Wheeler of Martinez, Ga. Great Grandchildren, Joe Wheeler, Nikki Wheeler, Rebecca Efird, Cory Efird, and Shelby Redden, and her loving dog Tootsie. Nellie worked in area cotton mills from the age of sixteen until her retirement. She was active in church where she played piano, and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. She was a terrific Mother and friend to the entire family and will be sorely missed. Nellie's body was cremated and the funeral service will be private at her request.
