Mary Vance Buxton Washington, 89, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024 in Augusta, Georgia. A graveside service will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, August 31 at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Georgia. Mary Vance, daughter of the late Hubert R. Buxton, Sr. and Lucille Vance Buxton, was born in Millen, Georgia. She graduated from the University of Georgia, studied Elementary Education and was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. Mary Vance taught elementary education in both Tampa, Florida and Atlanta, Georgia. She loved all aspects of being a skilled homemaker and mother. She was a wonderful cook and instilled the love of the culinary arts in both of her daughters. She was involved in a local garden club and enjoyed outdoor beautification. She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Jennings (Mr. Joseph L.) of Charlottesville, Virginia, Ashley Standard (Dr. Shawn) of Baltimore, Maryland; grandchildren, Joseph Jennings IV, Sidney Jennings and Corinne Jennings of Charlottesville, Virginia, Christopher Standard, Richard Standard, Kathleen Standard and Michelle Standard of Baltimore, Maryland. She is preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Richard Washington, Jr.; brothers, James Flynt and Hubert Buxton.
