Mary Ellen Redfern

Ms. Mary Ellen Messer Redfern of Lumpkin Road died on Friday, October 24, 2008.She was 69 years old. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 26, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.The funeral will be conducted on Monday, October 27, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Sherwood Baptist Church, 3131 Old Louisville Road, Augusta.Ms. Redfern’s body will lie in state at the church on Monday from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.Committal services will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.Rev. Jim Johnson and Rev. Marion Jay will officiate. Ms. Redfern is survived by her sons, Richard H. Redfern Sr., and his wife, Donna, of Gainesville, Georgia, and James C. Redfern and his wife, Dale, of Augusta; her daughters, June Redfern of Augusta and Faye Wilkey and her husband, James, of Martinez; two sisters, Kate McGuire and her husband, Wally, of Charleston, South Carolina, and Carol Finn and her husband, Pat, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; her brother, Bobby Sparks of Augusta; seventeen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; her dear friend, Brenda Macfarland. Ms. Redfern was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church where she taught Wednesday Night Children’s Church.She was retired from Big Lots as the assistant manager.
