Mark M. Moats

March 21, 1957 — November 11, 2024

Mark M. Moats, (67), of Martinez, Georgia, went home to Jesus peacefully in the comfort of his home with friends and family by his side on November 11, 2024. Mark, lovingly known as Papaw, was born on March 21, 1957, in Eliks, West Virginia. The U.S. Army moved the Moats family to Augusta, Georgia in 1962. The youngest of 6 children, Mark was predeceased by his Parents: Carl E. and Mary E. Moats, Brother: Ellis Moats and two Sisters: Carla Lawson and Amy Howarth. Mark graduated from Butler High School in the class of 1976. A man of many talents, Mark worked as a brick and block mason, wastewater treatment operator, restaurant manager and retired as a chemical operator at PVS Technologies in 2019. Mark loved the water; fishing with buddies, spending time on his pontoon with family, or swimming too far out into the ocean: he said saltwater was the best medicine. Golf was another hobby, along with rooting for the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves and UGA Bulldogs. Mark would frequently attend the extracurricular activities of all his grandchildren – he was their biggest fan! Mark’s immense love for his family is carried on by his wife of 47 years, June Moats; their children, Amanda (Bo) Johnson and Andy (Ali) Moats. Mark was promoted to Papaw and blessed with four amazing grandchildren: Drew Johnson, Lila Gray Moats, Wyatt Moats and Walker Moats, who will all truly miss him. To honor Mark’s memory, a Celebration of Life will be held at 4pm, on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Vows & Venue, 4500 Whitaker Rd., Harlem, GA 30814. An interment will follow for friends and family. The family wishes to send a special thank you to High Praises Church of God, The Whitaker Family and to the entire staff at Trinity Hospice for their care and compassion for Mark and his family.
