Marilyn Adcock

Marilyn Ward Adcock of Martinez, Georgia, passed peacefully in her home surrounded by family on September 13, 2019. Marilyn was born on July 20, 1942 in Strawberry, Arkansas. Raised in a large and loving family, Marilyn was a standout musician and athlete throughout her life. Her professional musical career began in the early 1960’s when she moved to Nashville, Tennessee and started a band called Marilyn Ward and the Capitals. They entertained multitudes of people in and around Nashville. Eventually, Marilyn fell in love with and married Joe Adcock. They in turn continued their musical career by touring across the United States. In 1964, they were blessed with their only child, Rhonda. The three of them continued the adventure on the road filled with laughter, love, and music. In 1988, Marilyn moved to Augusta to be close to her daughter. She soon found herself playing at area clubs, namely Henry’s and Michael’s Supper Club and Piano Bar. A local favorite, she was the woman who could play piano like no one else and sing with the voice of an angel. Local hometown legend James Brown would often stop in to sing a few songs, and they both enjoyed the music they created together. Marilyn continued to play at area clubs after Michael’s closed, and she had a loving and loyal following who enjoyed her music, beauty, and vivacious spirit. She was famous for playing your favorite song when you walked into the room. Marilyn loved her family, her home, her garden, and above all, her grandson, Benjamin. She was predeceased by her parents Juddie and Owen Ward, her sisters Geraldine Poskey and Delores Lepper, her brothers Edward Gene, Billy Hugh, and Tony. She is survived by her brother Jerry Van (Strawberry, Arkansas), her cherished sister Clella Ann (Robert Bellefeuille of Poway, California), and many nieces and nephews. Left to grieve this incredible loss are her husband, Joe, her beloved daughter, Rhonda Sullivan (Tom) and lastly, her cherished grandson, Benjamin Sullivan. There will be no services held. Donations in her memory may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Marilyn would want those who knew and loved her to remember the music, love, and laughter.
