Luther William Godowns, 79, of Grovetown, Georgia, passed away on May 3, 2024. Luther was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky, and graduated from Richmond Academy in Augusta, Georgia. He was the owner of LWG Construction, a specialty door installation and carpentry company, where he earned a reputation as one of the best in his field before retiring in the early 2000s. Luther's work ethic and craftsmanship were well-known, having previously served as the Carpenter General Foreman during the construction of Plant Vogtle units 1 and 2, and as a member of Carpenters Local 283. Outside of his successful career, Luther enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and gardening. He cherished moments spent outdoors with his family on camping trips and vacations. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work and a love for nature. Luther is survived by his children, Stacy Godowns Wurst, Dana Scarborough King, Lee Godowns, grandchildren Morgan Wurst Waters, Mackenzie Wurst, Tyler Scarborough, Brannen Guy, Madison Rhyan, and great-grandson Fletcher Waters. He is also survived by his sisters Brenda (Phaedra) English, Marylee Slate, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Luther was preceded in death by his father, Lee Roy Godowns, and mother, Jane Floyd Godowns. The family extends special thanks to Luther's niece, Maria Slate, who gave special care to her Uncle Luther during the later years of his life. A private, family graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta. Fairhaven Funeral Home in Augusta is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. A celebration of Luther's life will be planned for a later date to allow Luther's friends to join the family in sharing memories and honoring his life.
