Biography Mr. Lewis E. Meigs U.S. Army Veteran Trenton, SC SSGT (Retired) Lewis E. Meigs, known by most as "Sarge", entered into God's rest on March 3, 2012. In leaving this life, he joins Martha Elizabeth Meigs (his late beloved wife), Lewis C. Meigs & Ethel E. Meigs (his parents), and Marjorie Wilkinson (a treasured aunt).Born August 12th, 1931, in Tuscaloosa County AL- Lewis served more than 20 years in the United States Army. During his military career he served two combat tours during the Korean Conflict and one combat tour during the Vietnam War. Additionally, he had overseas assignments in Greenland, Guam, Okinawa, and Germany. Following his retirement from the Army, as a man of resolute work ethic, Lewis first worked at the Graniteville Company and then continued for many years as an auto mechanic. At the time of his death, he worked for Edgefield County Senior Citizens Council at an Edgefield County Solid Waste Collection and Recycling Center. Known as a determined and generous man, he is survived by his five children. Colonel (ret) Steve Meigs (Maggie) San Antonio, TX, Brenda Mealing (Max) Trenton, SC, Mike Meigs (Teresa) North Augusta, SC, Richard Meigs (Peggy Trenton, SC, and Bruce Meigs (Becky) North Augusta, SC: Eleven grandchildren, Amanda Meigs, John Mealing, Bryan Mealing, Matt Mealing, Daryl Strickland, Cheryl Rynearson, Christy Canaday, Kimmey Battles, Bruce Meigs, Jr., Amy Schofield and Causey Meigs; twelve great-grandchildren, and a number cousins, nieces and nephews (AL). Lewis was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, the Edgefield County Senior Citizen's council, and the Jesse C. Lynch Memorial American Legion Post 71. The family will receive friends a Mt. Zion Baptist Church (720 Mt. Zion Road, Trenton, SC 29847 ) on Friday, March 9th, from 1:00 PM-2:00 PM . The memorial services will commence at 2:00 PM with Rev. Lloyd Prince & Rev. Daniel Brazell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military Honors.
