Biography July 7, 1943-October 24, 2012 Martinez, Ga. Kaylene Thomas (Ervin), 69, passed peacefully in her sleep at her home in Augusta, GA after an eighteen-month battle with head and neck cancer. Born in Elizabethton, TN to Edith P. Thomas of Hampton, TN and the late Fred Thomas, she graduated in 1961 from Newport High School in Newport, KY. She lived Las Vegas, NV, Pottstown, PA, and San Luis Obispo, CA before moving to the Augusta, GA area in 1985, interrupted by a brief period of time spent in Kirksville, MO. Fiercely intuitive and passionate about natural living and healing, Kaylene will be remembered as an inspiring example of unapologetic honesty, self-sacrifice, and her lifelong quest for truth. A devoted homemaker and mother, she had an eye for design and decor, occasionally showcasing her impressive skills as a seamstress and home renovator. She is preceded in death by her son, David Michael Lee and her brother, George Steven Thomas. She will be missed by her loving and generous ex-husband, Robert C. Ervin, who cared for her during the last several months of her illness; her mother; her brother Bobby G. Thomas of Hampton, TN; her daughters Rana Zellner Burr of Fairfield, CA and Rebecca Zellner Grunzke of St. Augustine, FL and their husbands, Major Kent D. Burr, USAF, and Andrew L. Grunzke; her son Robert Thomas Ervin and his wife Brittany Elizabeth Ervin of Memphis, TN; her step-daughters Idelle (Kim) Zellner Brooks, who considered her a sister, and Rene Korf; her step-sons Bill and Don Zellner; grandsons Montana Kent Burr and Benjamin Mason, granddaughters Olivia Burr, Morgan Ella Mason, Amelia Burr, Rebecca Burr, and Alice Rose Grunzke; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Arrangements are pending for celebrations of her life to be held in Elizabethton, TN and Augusta, GA.
