Joyce G. Wells

Joyce G. Wells, resident of Aiken, SC passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023. She was 93 years old. Joyce was born on November 22, 1929 to the late John and Sena (Mjoen) Spear in Colman, SD. She was the second oldest of seven children. The family moved to Flandreau, SD when she was ten years old where she grew up and graduated high school. After high school, Joyce traveled to El Paso, TX where she met her husband Raymond Wells. Joyce and Ray were married on March 31, 1948 and celebrated 68 years together and raised four children. Joyce worked various jobs over the years but her primary profession was owner/operator of a beauty shop. As a military family they lived overseas in Okinawa and Germany plus several places within the United States. They eventually settled in Greeley, CO. Joyce’s hobbies included crocheting, sewing, gardening and cooking to name a few. Over the years Joyce and Ray were involved with the VFW and the 34th WWII alumni. Joyce also volunteered for many charities such as meals on wheels, delivering communion to homebound church members and tutoring children to read. She enjoyed helping people in need and spending time with family and friends. Joyce was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Greeley, CO. Joyce moved to South Carolina with her son Ray and family in 2021. Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Ray (Donna) Wells and Richard (Gabriela) Wells. Grandchildren: Heather (Billy) Brown, Nick (Karol) Shipley, Stacey Moore, Hyacinth (Peter) Wells Bunting, and Jon (Andrea) Hoerner. Thirteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Her sister Jean Jewett and brother Dean Spear and several nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Ray; parents John and Sena; sister Betty; brothers Jack, Glenn, and Roy; and daughters Toni and Peggy.
