Joseph David Whitten

Mr. Joseph David Whitten, 80, of Augusta, GA, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, February 23, 2015 at University Hospital. Born in Macon, GA, he was the son of the late John Harrison Whitten and Bessie Tant Whitten. He lived in Ocilla, GA before moving to Augusta in 1974. HE work at Graniteville Company as a machine operator before retiring in 1997. He attended Lumpkin Road Baptist Church. Joseph enjoyed cutting grass, working in his yard, and feeding the birds. His most precious time was spent with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters. He is survived by his wife of fifty four years, Sarah Tarrant Whitten, sons, David Whitten, Augusta, GA, James Whitten, Hephzibah, Clarence (Amanda) Whitten, Grovetown, GA, Jerry (Lynn) Whitten, Hephzibah, GA, brothers, John Henry Whitten, Douglas, GA, James Whitten, Monetta, SC, nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 from 5-7pm at Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Rd, Augusta, GA. Funeral services will be private.
