Sgt. Joseph Angus Bowen US Army On November 30, 1950, Sergeant Joseph A. Bowen was killed in action while serving in the Korean War.Since that date, it has not been possible to return Sgt. Bowen’s body to the United States for burial.Recently, the United States Army visited Sgt. Bowen’s family to let them know that his body will now be brought home, to Hephzibah, Georgia, for burial next to his parents.To honor his service to our nation, and fulfill the wishes of his family, a traditional visitation, funeral, and military committal service will be held. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 6, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from Hephzibah Baptist Church, 2527 Georgia Highway 88, Hephzibah.Committal services, with full military honors, will follow at Hephzibah Vance Memorial Cemetery.Rev. Danny McGill will officiate. Sgt. Bowen was born in Augusta on March 11, 1931. Since his death in 1950, his parents, H.T. and Ione C. Bowen, and his sister, Edna Lucille Bowen Salmons, have also died.He is survived by his sisters, Margie Bowen Smoak, of Hephzibah, and Ann Bowen Ford, of Hephzibah; many nieces and nephews.
