Augusta, Georgia - SFC (Retired Army) John Joseph Prendergast, 79, entered into rest on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Maryann (Schneck) Prendergast, and children, Christie, Thomas, and Kelly. He was always proud of being born and raised in Southie and will be greatly missed by the “Prendy’s” in and around the Boston area. His most memorable assignment was as a medic to the Whitehouse Staff when John F. Kennedy gave his famous speech in Berlin, Germany. When the President walked past immediately after his speech, he yelled out to him “Hey Jack, I’m from “Southie” and the President acknowledged him and smiled. He was almost court-martialed for addressing the Commander in Chief by his name. His flight from Vietnam was one of his happiest moments to be coming home to his family.
