John Wheeler Humphrey, Sr

John Wheeler Humphrey, Sr. ,husband of Camilla Philson Humphrey, died at home Saturday, September 27, 2008 following battle against lung cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday September 30, 2008 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3131 Walton Way. The Rev. Robert M. Watkins and Elder Garn Capps officiating. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs John Lee Humphrey. Mr. Humphrey was born in Jacksonville, NC and graduated from Jacksonville High School. He attended the university of North Carolina and served in the Unitted States Army, returning to gradurate from the University of South Carolina where he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Upon graduating, he joined Burroughs Corp. as salesman and spent entire business in the employ of Burroughs/Unisys. He was Branch manager of their Augusta operation for 30 years, retiring in 1991 He was a member of Conenant Presbyterian Church, having served as an Elder and a Trustee. He was a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class and a frequent Usher. He was a former member of the West Augusta Rotary Club and West Lake Country Club where he served on the Board of Directos
