John Jacob Harley Sr.

October 30, 1942 — March 13, 2025

John Jacob Harley Sr. died March 13, 2025. Mr. Harley was 82. After service to his country in the US Army National Guard and the US Air Force, he became an entrepreneur and founded several businesses in Augusta. He was founder and owner of Harleys Auto Sales, Harley’s Real Estate Properties, Harleys Truck Equipment and Auto Sales, Harleys Truck and Auto Salvage and Harleys Classic Car Museum. He was partner with good friend, Richard "Gary"; Williams in GAS Auto Sales. Mr. Harley also founded Reliable Auto Parts and Industrial Metal Finishing. During the later part of his life, he became mainly interested in Classic and Antique Automobiles and became very knowledgeable about them. He was also a staunch recycler and believed in saving and reusing materials of all types and lived that creed daily. Mr. Harley was a member of the The Edward Porter Alexander Sons of the Confederacy, The Augusta Genealogical Society and the American Legion Post 400, past member of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America , the Cushman Club of America and The Harley Owners Group. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, John Jacob Harley Jr. and his beloved parents Joseph Jacob Stallings and Rosa Lowe-Stallings. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sharon Cox-Harley, his daughter Mary Elizabeth Harley-Wilson, son-in-law John Wilson and his grandchildren Mackenzie Elizabeth Wilson and Jacob Colby Wilson(Riley), and Great Grandson Johnathan Paul Wilson. The family would like to thank Trinity Hospice and especially nurses, Taylor Cox and Iris Johnson. for their compassionate care during his final days and also to thank Fresenius Kidney Care of Richmond County and the wonderful team there that looked after him for so many months. Memorials may be made to the scholarship fund established by he and his wife in memory of their son, John Jacob Harley Jr at Augusta State University, The Wounded Warriors, The Paralyzed Veterans of America, The American Diabetes Association or The National Kidney Foundation. Burial was private.
