Jesse Albert Murga

September 23, 1925 — February 17, 2017

Lt. Col. (Ret) Jesse Albert Murga of Augusta passed away Friday, February 17, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, in the Chapel of The Poteet Funeral Home with Father Michael Hull officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Born in Los Angeles and a graduate of Redwood City High School in California, he was proud of serving in the U.S. Army.He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War, where he received a Battlefield Commission, a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, the Vietnam War and the Dominican Republic.His military service took him and his family to Japan, Germany, the Panama Canal Zone, Fort Campbell Kentucky and Fort Gordon, where he retired from the Army in 1970. He spent the next 20 years at Sunbelt Nissan/Southside Datsun. Jesse loved the outdoors, especially deer hunting and fishing, and he enjoyed reading American historical novels and watching television crime shows. With his passing, Jesse is reunited with his wife of 55 years, Janet, his parents, Jesus and Balbina, two sisters and brother. He is survived by his children, Michiyo (Skip) Turns of Greenwood, Indiana, Jane (Randy) Cooke of Grovetown, Kathy (Daniel McDonald) Lambof Atlanta, Jesse (Carrie) of Augusta, Nancy (Pat) Newton of Evans and Margie Menendez of Missoula, Montana, along with eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Jesse’s family would like to thank the Staff of DDEAMC for their support and care, especially the Staff of the ICU. The family will receive friends Tuesday February 21, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Poteet Funeral Home 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.
