Mr. Jesse Dudley “Chief” Burnette U.S. Navy Retired Mr. Jesse Dudley Burnette ,of Augusta, went home to be with the lord on Thursday, November 4, 2010. The family will receive friends (today) Saturday, November 6, 2010, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.at the Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.The funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.The committal service will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.Rev. William David Wiley will officiate. Mr. Burnette is survived by his daughters, Debbie and her husband, Wayne Williford, of Gibson, Georgia, Elaine and her husband, Robert “Noah” Black, ofThomson, Georgia, Kathy and her husband, Dan West, of Fernandia, Florida; grandchildren, Renee Black, Donna and her husband Dan Brunetti, Noah Black Jr., Jason Williford and his wife Kacey, Danielle and her husband Dave Wiley, Brian Williford and his wife, Jennifer, David West and his wife, Sara; and seven great-grandchildren.Mr. Burnette was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Betty Jo Burnette. Mr. Burnette served in the U.S. Navy as a Senior Chief Petty Officer with twenty years of service.After his career in the Navy, he became an instructor for NJROTC in Wrens High School and then to Glenn Hills High School and Westside High School for over ten years. Mr. Burnette enjoyed his service to the military and the NJROTC. The family suggests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 2607 Commons Blvd., Augusta, Georgia30909.
