James Edward Smith Sr.

James Edward Smith Sr., age 69, was born to Ossie Smith Jr. and Lillie (Bracher) Smith on September 26, 1953 and passed with his family by his side in Augusta, GA on April 18, 2023. He was preceded in death by both his parents, his sister Joyce, his brother Pete, his brother Johnny, his brother Charles, and his sister JoAnn, and survived by his sister Vivian. James was a lifelong resident of Augusta, GA. He worked and retired from the Housing Authority as a Lead Painter. He enjoyed painting, collecting guns, listening to music, fishing, and most of all spending valuable time with his wife and family. He was known for his humor and his desire to always lend a hand. James is survived by his wife Sharon (Jalbert) Smith whom he married on January 11, 1975. In their 48 years of marriage, they had three children: JoAnn Fuentes (Jose) of Graniteville, SC, James Smith Jr. (Kelly) of Augusta, GA, April Smith (Dusty) of Blythe, GA; grandchildren: Jose ‘Manuel’ Fuentes Jr. (Summer), Jaynie (Fuentes) Peace (Gavin), Annabella Fuentes (Darrius), Hannah Fuentes, James Smith III, Taylan Randall, Jamie Lynn Smith, Reagan-Kate Smith, Heaven Taylor, Hope Taylor, Freddie Taylor Jr; eight great grandchildren: Kailan, MaKinley, Scarlett, Avaleigh, Jose III “Curly/Cotton”, Elliot “Eli”, Maisie, Journee. James leaves behind many more family and friends, he was loved by many. A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please make all donations in memory of James E. Smith Sr. to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital or March of Dimes.
