James Lloyd Lawson, 61 of Grovetown, GA., passed away Monday, June 10, 2024, after his battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Chester, Pennsylvania, July 3, 1962, son of Brenda L. Ross and the late Robert D. Lawson Jr. James was a proud 20-year U.S. Navy veteran, serving on the USS Rentz (1984-86), USS David R. Ray (1982), USS Princeton (1990-94) and USS Ramage (1998-2000) where his specialty was instructor training and service technician on the MK 15 (Phalanx) weapon system. During his time in the Navy, he was also an award-winning Taekwondo competitor. In his retirement he embraced his creative side, designing websites, laser cutting on wood and metals and enjoyed life. James was a great hero to many, who dedicated his life to his country and caring for his loved ones. One of his greatest qualities was his ability to brighten the day of anyone he encountered by making them smile and laugh, he was the king of sarcasm. James will be forever loved, cherished, and missed; his spirit will live on through us all. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary V. Lawson and daughters, Suzanne Weaver, husband Charles Weaver and Heather Stevenson, husband Allen Stevenson, brother Robert Lawson and sister Linda Gusky husband Richard Gusky, grandchildren Victoria Wise, Chelsea Stevenson and Remington Stevenson, 3 nieces and 2 nephews. A military memorial service will be held July 7, 2024, beginning at 10:00 AM at the VFW located at 2430 Windsor Spring Rd, Augusta, GA 30906. James had a great love for all animals and has requested in lieu of flowers please donate to the ASPCA in his memory.
