James Brent Crutchfield

January 21, 1967 — June 28, 2024

James Brent Crutchfield, age 57 of Avera, Georgia, was surrounded by his family when he was called to his heavenly home on Friday, June 28, 2024 following an extended battle with cancer. He was known as a passionate sportsman and a loving son, brother, uncle, and loyal friend to so many. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Brent was born in Gordon, GA, on January 21, 1967 and was raised in the Wildwood community of Macon. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Crutchfield and Brenda Amerson Crutchfield, along with his aunt, Debbie Crutchfield, who played a vital role in his care early in his diagnosis. Brent is survived by his sister, Leslie Crutchfield Hickson of Evans; his nephew, Trevor (Ashley) Hurt and daughter Magnolia, of Martinez; his uncle, Greg Crutchfield of Macon; and many beloved members of the Phillips, Amerson, and Rickerson families. While Brent never had a biological son, Justin (Katelyn) Rectenwald of Thomasville, GA, filled that void. Many families claimed and treated Brent as one their own including the Davises, Waldens, Prices, Hagermans, and many others. He was the life of every party, had a personality larger than life, and made a lasting impression on everyone he was around. Brent regularly enjoyed a fish fry or cooking with his best friends and classic country music. He was a lifelong fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. Brent was known for his passion for the outdoors, and he lived and breathed turkey, deer, dove, and duck hunting. He also enjoyed wetting a line to fish for redbreast and bass in the local rivers, creeks, and ponds throughout middle Georgia. Brent would say his biggest accomplishment was introducing so many to the outdoor lifestyle he loved, and he took pride in mentoring others to develop that same passion. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Trinity Hospice Services, 4106 Columbia Road, Suite 20, Martinez, GA 30907; or, to the Tall Timbers Albany Quail Project, 5765 Pigeon Road Newton, GA 39870.
