James William (Billy) Cawley

James William (Billy) Cawley, Sr, 86, of Augusta, GA, passed away at his home on April 19, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Fay Russell Cawley and by his son James W. (Bill) Cawley Jr., daughters Lynn (Ron) McDearis, Jill (Wayne) Syms, and Laura (Charlie) Waters, brothers Danny Cawley, Winston Cawley, and Jack North., sisters Mary Cawley, Aileen Lord, and Sandra (Woody) Keel, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dear & faithful friend, Stanley Crouch. Billy was born in Augusta, GA, the son of Marion Cawley and Audley H. Cawley.He retired from Akzo Nobel as a chemical operator in 1996.Billy was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church of the McBean Community for many years and was a current member of Fleming Baptist Church of Augusta.He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Jack North, brothers Edward, Gene and Randall, and sisters Pauline and Grace. Funeral services will be held 3 PM Sunday, April 22, 2018 in the chapel of Poteet Funeral Home, 3645 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.The family will receive visitors one hour prior to services.A graveside service and internment at Piney Grove Baptist Church cemetery will follow the chapel service.Pallbearers will be grandsons & nephews. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 5060 Mike Padgett Hwy, Augusta, GA 30906; Fleming Baptist Church, 3027 Peach Orchard Rd., Augusta, GA30906; or KidStuff-USA, P.O. Box 1379, Lawrenceville, GA 30046. The family would like to thank St. Joseph Hospice for their kindness, compassion, and care provided over the past several months.
