James Allen SGM US Army Retired Mr. James Allen, loving husband of Mrs. Betty J. Allen, of Augusta, died at his home on Tuesday, September 06, 2011.He was 79 years old. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 10, 2011 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at The Poteet Funeral home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, September, 10, 2011 at 12:00 noon in the funeral home chapel.The committal service, with military honors, will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Along with his wife of more than 29 years, Betty J. Allen, survivors include his children, Michael Allen, Janet Smallman, John Allen and his wife, Elese, Becky Rogers and her husband, Alan, Renee Lenzie and her husband, Kirk, and Camille Person and her husband, Mark; his grandchildren, Christopher Allen, Katelin Allen, Michelle Kielholtz, Julie Buird, Aimee Smith, Kara Powell, Robert Hartleben, and Sara Lenzie; his great-grandchildren, Kevin, Dylan, Madalyn, Margaret, Shelby, Olivia, Cannon, and Jaylyn; his brother, David Wilson Allen; his sisters, Evelyene Fowler and Dora Havard. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his first wife, Ilse Ellenberger. Mr. Allen was born in Dudley, Georgia, son of the late Johnnie Allen and Carrie Bell Snow Allen. His brothers, Wesley and Marshall Allen, also preceded him in death.He was of the Christian Faith.Mr. Allen was retired as a Sergeant Major from the United States Army.During his twenty six years of service, Mr. Allen served three tours in Korea, served in Vietnam, and was posted in Germany.Following his military service, he worked for Nipro Inc.For memorials the family suggests the Blue Goose, 1101 15th Street, Augusta, Georgia 30901 or the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018 or online atwww.parkinson.org.Mr. Allen was an avid gardener and fisherman.He enjoyed travelling in his RV with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends after his retirement.
