Grovetown, GA. Mr. Jacob Clyde Cooter ran into the arms of our Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ, on March 31st, 2016. He fought and never gave up after being diagnosed with lung cancer in August of 2015. Mr. Cooter was born in Moshime, TN in 1936 and grew up in Bulls Gap, TN. He was retired from the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was owner and operator of C & L Used Appliances, located at 3301 Milledgeville Rd. in Augusta, GA., and he took pride in making sure all of his customers were treated with respect and always stood behind his work. He became an avid runner at age 60, running over 100 half marathons, 7 full marathons, and countless shorter races throughout the Southeast and in Oregon. He held several Georgia state records in running, including the 25K for men ages 70-74. He loved running and could be found at a race on any given Saturday. He also loved his church, Victory Baptist Church, and was always the first to help those in need. He leaves behind his wife of over 19 years, Brenda Cooter of Grovetown, GA; son, Kenneth Cooter of Martinez, GA; daughter Maryanne of O’Fallon, IL; stepson, Michael Mitchell of Aiken, SC; sister Vivian Moore of Bulls Gap, TN; seven grand children; four great-grand children; and two step granddaughters. A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church (620 W. Martintown Rd., North Augusta, SC 29841). In lieu of flowers, the family of Mr. Cooter requests that memorial contributions be made to Garden City Rescue Mission (828 Fenwick St., Augusta, GA 30901) or The American Cancer Society.
