Ingeburg Maya Shell, 94, of Augusta, GA died Monday, December 11, 2023 at her residence after a brief and unexpected battle with heart failure. Born May 8, 1929 in Sulz am Neckar, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Johannes and Hedwig Zinser and was the wife of the late Columbus Leon Shell for 56 years. She was among the most kind, compassionate, and loving of souls. Her passing is a loss to the world. Ingeburg graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1960 with a degree in practical nursing and was the recipient of that year's Lucinda Ballard award for her loyalty and ability to instinctively help others. In the mid-1960's she worked as a nurse at Gracewood State Hospital and was well liked and respected by her co-workers and patients alike. However, for most of her life she was a homemaker. She was most proud of her son, Michael, who, owing much to the nurturing and support of his parents, went on to earn a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, although he himself is not as certain that he is actually worthy of all that praise. Ingeburg enjoyed crocheting, baking, gardening and nature in general. She was also a lifelong Lawrence Welk fan. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Manfred Zinser of Deckenpfronn, Germany. Survivors include her son, Michael Shell of Augusta, GA; sister Rosmarie Jordan, nephew Oliver Jordan and great-nephew Nigel Jordan, all of Chandler, AZ; and cousin Joerg Stroehlen of Endlhausen, Germany.
