Ilee Lee

Martinez, Ga., Mrs. Ilee Jones Lee, beloved wife of the late Reverend Grover C. Lee, went home to be with our LORD on Tuesday August 30th, 2016 Mrs. Lee was born to Grady and Ollie Jones on October 10, 1927 in Johnsonville, SC. Ilee was the oldest child of eight children. She leaves behind her children Larry, Sandra and Gary; her daughters by marriage, Barbara and Angela; her grandchildren, Nathan Lee (Elizabeth), Adam Lee (Libby), Ashleigh Walters (Travis), Sarah Lee, Carolyn Lee, and Christopher Lee; her great-grandchildren Harrison Lee, Julia Katherine Lee, Annie Lee, Anderson Lee, Abby Lee, and Audrey Walters. She was preceded in passing by siblings Hubert Jones and Jackie (Dennis) Bucher. Remaining with us are her five brothers and sisters and their spouses, John and Sara Jones, Ira and Jim Snead, Shirley and Bill Macklin, Mutt and Dee Jones, Mary and Bill Wade, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lee graduated from Columbia (Women’s) College, Columbia SC. She married Grover on January 30, 1949. Ilee served with Preacher Lee in pastoral work at Smithville Baptist Church, Smithville, GA., and Pineview and Martinez Baptist Church in Martinez, GA, and Open Door Baptist Church in Augusta, GA. She taught Sunday School over 25 years. She retired form her last job with Columbia County in 1999 where she worked in both the Engineering and Human Resources departments. Ilee was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. She was kind and showed great compassion for the troubled and downhearted. She was a great advisor and confidant. She loved her family and the many friends and coworkers whom she sought to encourage, and who encouraged her. She was quick to see the humor in life and to laugh with a jolly bounce, particularly at Grover’s antics. All the family loved her Sunday cooking. We thank God for Mama being the guide and encourager for us to lean on during the younger and most impressionable times of our lives. We would like to thank Gentiva Hospice and MYD Servies for their care for our mother. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday September 3rd. 2016 at 1:00 pm at Martinez Baptist Church with Reverend Phillip Winsett officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
