Howard N. Chase

Howard Newell Chase, 86, of Augusta, entered into rest on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Friday, March 24, 2017 at Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta with Reverend Dr. Gaye Ortiz officiating. Interment will follow at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia. A native of Skowhegan, Maine, he joined the United States Navy where he served during the Korean War. Later he worked at the New Balance Shoe Shop in Skowhegan, Maine as an elevator operator. After he retired, he served his community for many years in local politics, serving on the school board, tax accessor and the local planning board. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Verna Roy Chase; daughters, Barbara Bowen of Hephzibah, Elizabeth Thompson of Lawton, OK; Son, John Chase of Madison, Maine; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 5:00 until 7:00 at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.
