Grayson E. Mercer

Mr. Grayson E. Mercer U.S. Army Retired Augusta, GA – Mr. Grayson E. Mercer, loving father and grandfather, of Augusta, entered into rest on April 1, 2010 at University Hospital.He was 77 years of age. The family will receive guests on Friday, April 2, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Sherwood Baptist Church.Rev. Jim Johnson and Rev. Marion Jay will officiate.Mr. Mercer will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.Committal services will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Mercer is survived by his loving wife of more than 57 years, Mabeth P. Mercer; his children, Terry D. Mercer and his wife Donna of Hephzibah, Glenn E. Mercer and his wife Ginavee of Augusta, Sherri M. Drennen of Augusta, Suzanne M. Kaney and her husband Mark of Windsor, South Carolina; his sisters, Melba Lanier of Metter, Georgia, Janell Watson of Augusta, Frances Rooks of Metter, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Galen E. Mercer, Katie M. Mercer, Dean C. Mercer, Bradley C. Mercer, Taylor S. Drennen, Tyler T. Drennen, Hunter M. Kaney, and Trevor A. Kaney. Mr. Mercer was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church.He retired from the United States Army with 23 years of service, including three tours in Vietnam and two tours in Korea.He served as a ROTC instructor at Richmond Academy and several other Universities.
