Mrs. Grace Simpson Smoak Mrs. Grace S. Smoak, of Augusta, entered into rest on Monday, July 19, 2010.She was 91 years old. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.The funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at The Hill Baptist Church, 2165 Kings Way, Augusta.Mrs. Smoak will lie in state at the church from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. The committal service will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.Dr. Kenneth Word will officiate.Pallbearers will be Billy Austin Usry, Russell Blanchard, Jon Eric Stripling, Shawn Stripling, Chris Kitchens, and Nathaniel Bruner. Mrs. Smoakwas born on March 20, 1919 in Abner Creek, South Carolina.She was employed for 20 years as a sewing teacher for Singer Sewing Machine Company, and monogrammed for 37 years. She graduated in 1990 at the age of 70, from Augusta State University having earned her degree in Elementary Education.Mrs. Smoak was a member of The Hill Baptist Church, and of the Seekers Sunday School Class.She was an active teacher in the 2 years old Sunday School, and children’s church for at least 20 years. Mrs. Smoak is survived by her daughter, Cynthia S. Usry, and her husband, Billy Usry; her granddaughter, Karen L. Usry Kitchen, and her husband Chris, Jennifer L. Usry-Stripling, her great grandson, Billy Austin Usry,great granddaughter, Shalyn Grace Stripling; three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, Fay W. Simpson and Lois M. Simpson; her brother, Dwight Simpson; and her husband, David LeRoy “Roy” Smoak.
