Glenn Lamar Strickland, 94, formerly of Cairo, Georgia died Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the Augusta University Medical Center in Augusta, GA where he was residing. He was born April 17, 1926 in Whigham, Georgia the youngest of 9 children of John Silas Strickland and Louella (Bryant) Strickland. He was a Navy veteran entering service in August of 1944 and was discharged in 1946. During his service he saw the world and served onboard the U.S.S. Shangri-La. He married Faye Moore in 1946 and had 4 children during the course of their marriage. Glenn’s professional career in the propane and natural gas industry took them to South Florida where they lived in Miami, and Boca Raton until the late 1970’s. His career took him onto Connecticut and back to South Florida where he retired. An industry executive, he was extremely proud of his professional accomplishments. Glenn loved to travel and crisscrossed the country in his motorhome in the early days of his retirement. Although he and Faye divorced, they reconnected when he moved back to South Georgia and became close friends and roommates helping and caring for one another. After Faye’s death in 2019, Glenn moved to Augusta, Georgia to live with his daughter, Glenna Baker, husband Bill and youngest son Larry Strickland. He is survived by 3 children, Glenna S. Baker (Bill), Jimmy L. Strickland, and Larry A. Strickland, son-in-law Don Frederick and two grandchildren Jennifer Rendell Bowen (Mark), and Stacey Frederick, and one great-grandson Brandon Bowen. In addition to Faye, he was preceded in death by his parents, 8 siblings, and daughter Beth Strickland Frederick. Glenn was a beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved current events and keeping his mind sharp. He was a believer in Jesus Christ and a member of various Baptist churches during his lifetime.
