Mr. Vowell is survived by his wife of more than 53 years, Betty Wright Vowell; a son, George E. Vowell Jr., of Birmingham, Alabama; his daughter, Pamela K. McElfresh, of Augusta; two sisters, Mary Ruth Daniels, of Nashville, Tennessee and Wanda Sallee, of El Cajon, California; his six grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, Matthew, Logan, Jessica, and Julie; a great-grandchild, Sloan Bailey.Mr. Vowell was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Vowell and Velma Cox Vowell; his brother, Wallace Vowell; his nephew, Rodney Vowell.
